PURPOSE:To automatically return a compensator roll to a central position by controlling a compensator roll drive motor in accordance with a signal released from a position detector. CONSTITUTION:During a printing operation, a controller 20 controls a compensator roll drive motor 12 and a compensator roll 8 is moved in the direction shown by the arrow A to change a path length for web 5 and to longitudinally register the web so that picture patterns printed at a printing unit 1 are superposed on picture patterns to be printed at a printing unit 2 subsequent to the printing unit 1. Then, after finishing the printing, when an operation button for returning the compensator roll to a central position, which is disposed on the controller 20, is depressed at a suitable time, the controller 20 inputs a signal outputted from a position detector 16, which indicates the position of the compensator roll at the time when the button is depressed, to compare the signal with a central position signal (V0) set in advance and then controls the compensator roll drive motor 12 so that a difference between the inputted signal and the preset central position signal becomes zero. Thereby, the compensator roll 8 moves toward the central position and stops at the point of time when it reaches the central position. |
