PURPOSE:To improve the S/N of a magnetic head and to enhance the track density, by forming magnetic poles thicker than an R/W magnetic pole on both sides of the R/W magnetic pole. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head consists of an R/W magnetic pole 14 and an E magnetic pole 15. A width 17 of the R/W magnetic pole corresponds to the track width of recording approximately, and a width 16 of the E magnetic pole corresponds to the width of erasing approximately. As an example of application of this magnetic head, the magnetic head is arranged in the position of a main magnetic pole in the constitution where the main magnetic pole and an auxiliary magnetic pole are used to perform vertical magnetic recording. When the magnetic head is used in this manner, the magnetic flux which overflows from the recording track and is picked up by the R/W magnetic pole at the reproducing time approximates zero and the variation of the magnetic flux which is picked up by the E magnetic pole at the reproducing time approximates zero by the thickness loss of the E magnetic pole even if the position of the R/W magnetic pole at the recording time and that at the reproducing time are shifted from each other. Thus, the S/N is improved, and the track density is enhanced. |
