1320753 Polyamide-imide insulating coating- resins PHELPS DODGE MAGNET WIRE CORP 6 April 1970 [28 April 1969] 16215/70 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and H1] In processes for preparing polyamide-imides by reacting an aromatic diisocyanate and a tricarboxylic acid anhydride in solution in an inert solvent the solution of the reactants is initially allowed to stand at room temperature, or moderates above room temperature, for more than two hours and is subsequently heated to a higher temperature, e.g. 190‹C, which allows further reaction with formation of CO 2 . Solutions of the polymer, e.g. in N-methyl pyrrolidone or a mixture thereof with an aromatic hydrocarbon fraction may be used as an insulating coating composition e.g. for copper wire. In Examples 6 insulating coats are applied to 18 AWG copper wire. The coats are either all of the resin of the invention or one of 2 coats thereof applied over 4 coats of a conventional insulating resin which may be a trishydroxyethyl isocyanurate-modified terephthalate polyester or polyester-imide.
