1299116 Packaging containers R H GANZ 22 Sept 1970 [22 Sept 1969 16 April 1970] 45135/70 Heading B8C Bottles or cans are packaged by wrapping a sheet 24 of shrinkable and bondable plastics material around the containers with the ends of the sheet overlapping at one end of the containers, and heating the wrapped containers in an oven to bond the ends of the sheet at spaced locations and to shrink the sheet. The container may be passed through a hot air oven on a conveyer having elements 31-33 to shield the ends from being bonded in the regions of the containers. A card 19 may extend over the whole or part of the length of the package at the other end and have holes 25, 26, or finger notches, aligned with holes in the sheet formed by slitting the sheet before shrinking. The card may have side flanges 20 and, optionally, an aperture between each flange and the top of the card. The sheet is of blown extrusion polyethylene film having a greater shrinkage around the cluster of containers than along the length of the cluster. |
