Adjustable suspension element for vehicle - incorporates clamping ring adjustable on upper part of coil string

The upper part of the coil spring around the hydraulic damper is fitted with a special ring (1) which covers adjacent turns of the spring. As the ring is turned it pulls successive turns upwards into the spring location and effectively shortens the spring. The adjuster provides a simple way of adapting the springing to suit the load, especially on motorcycles. The adjustment can also cope with different types of road surface, and gives a low or high spring rate as required.
