PURPOSE:To enable simple checking of the cross section of an optical fiber without use of a microscope, by constituting a device such that a collection amount from a photo source is detected through the movement of a sensor, positioned facing and opposite to the forward end of the optical fiber, over the photo axis of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:A device utilizes the fact that a maximum radiation angle varies with a condition of a cut surface of an optical fiber, a forward end of an optical fiber 12, whose other end is connected to a photo source 11, is mounted to a fiber holder 13, and is positioned so that a sensor 20 can move over the photo axis thereof. When the sensor 20 is moved by a distance d2 from a position A to a position B, a change in a photo amount to the sensor 20, indicated in a millivoltmeter MV, is detected, and this permits the simple checking of an end surface condition of an optical fiber 12. |
