TFG-BETA INDUCED GENE FAMILY

A new gene family induced by TGF-beta is disclosed. Two new genes, designated .beta.IG-M1 and .beta.IG-M2, are induced in response to TGF-B1 treatment of mouse embryo fibroblasts. These genes encode proteins containing about 345 to about 380 amino acid residues, with a molecular weight of about 37,000 to about 48,000daltons and about 38 cysteine residues. The induced proteins share about 50 % homology with each other and significant homology with a v-src induced protein in chicken embryo fibroblasts designated CEF-10. These proteins may be involved in producing some of the growth and differention modulating effects of TGF-.beta.1.
