The invention relates to a method of exploiting peat, and particularly to a method wherein the peat can be exploited without any separate drying step. In the method, fresh peat is placed in conditions in which the decomposition taking place as a result of microbial activity and/or chemical reactions may start and/or go on. Heat generated as a result of decomposition and/or react-on products is/are transported to the point of use, and the used peat is later replaced with fresh peat and, if desired, utilized as growth substrate, soil improving matter, fertilizer, fuel, or equivalent. |
