PURPOSE:To quantitize picture signals without generating any unevenness in density of color in reproduced pictures, by detecting the peak level of each picture signals read by dividing one line with plural scanning element arrays and by using the larger peak as a white level reference signal. CONSTITUTION:Picture signals corresponding to one line read after they are divided with two CCD arrays CCD1 and CCD2 are added to peak detectors 2 and 3 of a white level reference detecting circuit 1 through amplifiers AMP1 and AMP2, respectively. Then, at a signal selecting circuit 4, the larger signal of the peak level signals detected by the peak detectors 2 and 3 is selected, and the selected signal is given to AD converters A/D1 and A/D2 as a white level reference signal Vref. At each AD converter, inputted signals BS1 and BS2 are quantitized in accordance with the value of the white level reference signal. |
