PURPOSE:To obtain the subject product having moisture-absorptivity, capable of keeping the bulkiness even in contact with water, holding sufficiently high strength and exhibiting excellent formability by forming a mixture of a hot-melt fiber and a crosslinked pulp produced by a specific method. CONSTITUTION:The objective product can be produced by forming a mixture of (A) 70-95wt.% of a crosslinked pulp obtained by reacting with a crosslinking agent in the presence of a textile softener and (B) 30-50wt.% of a hot-melt fiber (preferably polypropylene/polyethylene conjugate fiber, etc.). The component A is produced e.g. by contacting a (fibrillated) pulp with a solution containing a crosslinking agent, a catalyst and a softener, squeezing the pulp to an extent to hold a prescribed amount of the crosslinking agent, drying and crosslinking with heat and subjecting the product to defibration, filtration and drying. The crosslinking agent is preferably dihydroxyethylene urea, etc., and the softener is preferably a cationic softener. |
