PURPOSE:To obtain an azimuth sensor of high precision, by selecting part of outputs appearing at the rise and fall of a driving input voltage for detection of azimuth which is impressed on a head. CONSTITUTION:A system in which either one of the outputs appearing at the rise and fall of a pulse is selected through a switching gate is adopted. More particularly, a positive-negative alternating current is made to flow through a primary coil 1, and part of the outputs obtained from a secondary coil 2 and appearing at the rise and fall of a pulse is detected through the switching gate. In this system, part of the outputs obtained from a detecting coil is selected in this way. Concretely, an azimuth sensor head is formed by coiling a Co-amorphous thin tape on a cylindrical bobbin and winding the toroidal primary coil 1 thereon and further the secondary coil 2 thereon, respectively. In the head thus prepared and set, the positive-negative alternating current is made to flow through the primary coil 1, and part of the output at the rise of a pulse out of the outputs obtained from the secondary coil is selected.
