Apparatus, for the cultivation of plants using an aquiculture process, comprises a structure 10 on which two series of at least two elongate trays 12 are arranged in cascade fashion. The bottoms 14 of the trays 12 have a longitudinal sloped attitude to allow flow of liquid nutrient from a higher end to a lower end. A header tank 16 is positioned above the trays 12, with one or two collecting tanks 18 for the series of trays 12 being arranged below the lowermost tray(s) 12. A controlled conduit is provided from the header tank 16 to the topmost tray 12 in each series. First liquid conveying means 20 is provided to convey liquid nutrient into each tray 12 in sequence and second liquid conveying means is provided at the lower end of each tray 12 to convey any liquid nutrient collected thereat back into the first liquid conveying means 20 for the next lowermost tray 12 in sequence. As shown, each tray has a cistern 24 at the higher end with an outlet 26 having regulator valve 28. First liquid conveying means comprises pipe arrangements 20 each including upstanding pipe 30 the top of the pipe 30 forming a weir. Second liquid conveying means for each tray is a central duct 32 connected by tube 36 to pipe 20.
