Method and device for filtering elliptical waves propagating in a medium

The method employs a multi-component acoustic or seismic wave receiver (R) with two or more sensors oriented in chosen orthogonal directions preferably related to the plane of polarisation of the elliptical waves. The processing unit (1) consists of a signal sampler and digitiser (2), a calculator (3) of co-ordinates in a vertical reference plane, and a programmed discriminator (4). The response to received waves is subjected to a wavelet transform and the resultant signals are selected in accordance with an amplitude criterion. The elliptical wave field is reconstructed by inverse wavelet transformation.
