<p>The free end (4a) of the jockey arm (4) rests on the roll (2) and the other (4b) pivots (5). A unit (6) measures the angle alpha formed between a reference plane (P) and that (P') passing through the pivot and point of contact on the roll. The computer (7) determines the diameter (D) of the roll from this angle. An electronic controller (8) continuously adjusts the motor (3) reeling speed (Vbobine) to maintain a predetermined, linear film velocity. An Independent claim is included for plant frosting food products with ice before freezing, in which a film conveyor winds from a supply roll, over a refrigerated support and onto the roll of the subject invention. PREFERRED FEATURES:- The free end of the jockey arm rests on the upper surface of the roll. The speed controller employs the relationship (Vbobine) = VL/ SIMILAR pD. VL being the linear film velocity, D the instant reel diameter. The jockey arm carries a jockey wheel (9) and is curved. The measured angle is amplified by a gearing system (8,8a).</p> |
