PURPOSE: To provide a producing method of a catalyst and/or catalyst precursor used for synthesis of a hydrocarbon from synthesis gas and producing method of a hydrocarbon and/or oxide using the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst and/or catalyst precursor by this invention comprises alloys or alloy particles of at least two metals chosen from groups VIb, VIIb and VIII of the periodic table of element, the alloy having a negative heat of formation (with respect to the individual metals) and forming, upon contacting with synthesis gas (H2 /CO ratio is 2) at 250 deg.C under 1 bar for a period of three hours, 1 to 20 mol.% of metal in total in the form of carbide based on the total amount of metal, while at least 50% of the metal atoms present in the free surface area of the alloy is converted into carbide. |
