The heat exchanger uses a collector plate (12) which has integral collars (13). The flange of the collector plate is longer (Lr) than the height of the collar (Hc) and the exchanger shell (F2) abuts the inside of the collector flange just outside the collar height. The cooling tubes (T) fit within the collars (13) and the assembly is fastened by bracing which fills the tube/shell/flange interstice (14).
