PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable wavelength optical filter in which the selected wavelength can be changed at high speed. SOLUTION: The variable wavelength optical filter is equipped with N movable optical filters 1a, 1b,..., 1m,..., 1N which can be independently operated, and is constituted so that the m-th movable optical filter 1m has a passband centered at a wavelengthλm when 1<=m<=N. While arranging the movable optical filters 1a, 1b,..., 1m,..., 1N along the optical axis of collimated light 6 which connects the ends of input/output optical fibers 2 and 3, collimators 4 and 5 are coupled with the end surfaces of the optical fibers 2 and 3. Furthermore, the movable optical filters 1a, 1b,..., 1m,..., 1N are formed so that they can be selectively inserted to or removed from the optical axis of the collimated light 6 by using actuators 7a, 7b,..., 7m,..., 7N which are disposed at positions corresponding to the filters. |
