PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device which has a mechanism for irradiating the solid-state image pickup device with a uniform light. SOLUTION: When a power supply is closed or when an image pickup operation is started, a calibration operation control unit 7 makes a uniform light emission unit 6 irradiate a solid state image pickup element 1 with a light giving uniform brightness. At that time, the calibration operation control unit 7 controls so as to have image pickup data converted into digital signals by an A/D converter 2 and sent out to a memory 3. At that time, shading data stored in the memory 3 are supplied to a COR 4 in a normal image pickup state to correct the image pickup data in the normal operation state by the COR 4.
