PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner wherein noises of a compressor can be reduced when surroundings become dark for operation with energy saving. SOLUTION: A freezing cycle composed of a compressor 3 and an air fan 2, etc., is contained in a body 1, and indoor air sucked from an air suction inlet 5 is dehumidified and dried in the freezing cycle, and thereafter it is exhausted from an air exhaust outlet 6. Further, when an optical sensor detects that brightness of the surroundings becomes predetermined brightness or lower, the foregoing compressor 3 is operated by reducing dehumidification capability.
