PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stagnation of image data outputted from an image reading device, in a radiation image reading and processing method and a device therefor. SOLUTION: A radiation image is read by image reading means 10 from storage fluorescent substance sheet 1 where a radiation image has been recorded, and image data Dg storing this radiation image are outputted. In order to execute receiving process of the image data Dg outputted by a data process means 20 and also processes other than this receiving process, the receiving process can be executed on the side of the data process means 20 without making waited the output of the image data Dg from the image reading means 10, and the execution of processes other than this receiving process is controlled by a processing capability controller 39.
