A device for processing an insulated fiber (4) which is formed from an optical fiber (5) provided with an insulation (6). Included is a retaining device (2), in which the insulated fiber (4) to be processed is placed. A retaining jaws arrangement (8) has two retaining jaws (9) between which an insulated fiber is fixed in an output position via a retaining device (2) and projecting section (13). A cutting device (11) cuts through the insulation (6) to be removed, transversely to the fiber (5). A splitting device (12) splits the fiber (5) held between the retaining device (2) and the retaining jaws arrangement (8), in a section with the insulation removed and under tension transverse to the fiber (5).
