The radial seal for a shaft comprises a base (9) which carries a sealing lip and has an annular flange (10) which retains it in a bore in a casing. A rubber ring (12) is fixed in a groove (11) in the outer surface of the flange and has an outer diameter (D1) which is greater than that of the bore. The flange has a section (S) which is free from rubber and has an outer diameter (D2) which is at least as great as that of the bore. An Independent claim is included for use of two seals to separate media.
