MANUFACTURE OF AGGREGATE OF COMPOUND FOR TIRE TREAD AND ANTI-SKID PARTICLE

PURPOSE: To provide a method for manufacturing a strip of a conglomerate of a compound and anti-skid granules suitable for forming a tread strip for a tire with improved characteristics of adherence to a road surface covered with ice or snow. CONSTITUTION: Individual granules, already pre-treated with adhesive, are coated with uncured compound until the thickness of a rubber coat reaches a value lower than 0.2 mm, the coated granules are then poured into a mixer for incorporation in the compound of the tire tread, after forming a so-called bench and attainment of a temperature of at least 60 deg.C (but not, above 80 deg.C). A mixing operation is then continued until the compound is obtained with a uniform distribution of the granules. The compound is then extruded or profiled as a continuous strip suitable for constituting a tire tread or for being inserted into a cavity of a tread profile together with which it will be subsequently be cured.
