PURPOSE: A portable MPEG player is provided to reproduce various types of MPEG files by using non-volatile external memory. CONSTITUTION: A portable MPEG player includes a CPU(1) having driving control programs, a power control part(2) and a power supply, an external memory(10) mounted to the player by slot insertion, the player being data connected to the CPU, an I/O control part(20) for data connection and a key manipulation switch(SW) mounted outside a casing(C) of the player, a decoder IC(21) for decoding MPEG data to generate sound by reading MPEG data from the external memory, and a sound generating part(S) for reproducing the decoded MPEG data via a digital/analog converter(22) and an amp(23) to an earphone(E).
