PURPOSE: A method of preparing a stabilized isothiazolone composition capable of effectively inhibiting precipitate formation during production of isothiazolone solutions by adding a small amount of two kinds of stabilizers different in reaction mechanisms for inhibiting precipitation formation is provided. By the addition of the composition to a cosmetic, paint or the like, the growth of harmful microorganism is inhibited. CONSTITUTION: About 0.1 to 20% by weight of a 3-isothiazolone compound of the formula 1, 0.1 to 25% by weight of metal nitrate and 0.1 to 9.0% by weight of magnesium chloride are added to a solvent to produce a mixed solution, which is added with 0.0001 to 0.01% by weight of an iodic acid, periodic acid, iodate, periodate and mixtures thereof and 0.0001 to 0.1% by weight of a chloride salt to produce a 3-isothiazoline solution. In formula, R1 and R2 are the same or different, each H, halogen or C1-4 alkyl, or cyclic aryl, R3 is H, C1-18 alkyl, C2-18 alkenyl, C2-18 alkynyl, C3-12 cycloalkyl containing from triangular to octagonal ring, C10-24 aralkyl or C10-24 aryl.
