PURPOSE: A method for temporarily protecting glass having at least one practically flat surface from glass chips and/or scratching and a product containing water-removable coating are provided, to allow the treated glass to have surface characteristic and chemical properties equal or similar to those of the untreated glass. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of applying an aqueous solution containing at least one polysaccharide on the flat surface of glass whose contact angle before applied to an aqueous solution is 8 degree or less; removing the water from the aqueous solution to allow a polysaccharide-containing coating having a thickness of minimum 0.01 micrometers to be left on the surface; and removing the polysaccharide-containing coating from the surface continuously by using an aqueous solution, wherein the surface has an contact angle of 8 degree or less after the polysaccharide-containing coating is removed from the surface continuously by using an aqueous solution. The product comprises a glass sheet having at least one practically flat surface, and a coating which is formed on the surface with a thickness of minimum 0.01 micrometers and comprises at least one polysaccharide.
