PURPOSE:To provide a method of removing magnesium from an aluminum alloy without releasing harmful matter, such as unreacted free chlorine, aluminum chloride, and hydrogen chloride resulting from the hydrolysis of aluminum chloride. CONSTITUTION:The method is characterized by removing magnesium in the form of magnesium fluoride and magnesium sulfide by blowing sulfur hexafluoride into an aluminum alloy containing magnesium in a molten state. Further, this method is a method for removing magnesium from the aluminum alloy where the bubbles of the sulfur hexafluoride blown into the molten aluminum alloy are made fine, e.g. by using a rotary impeller or passing a porous refractory (of plug or tile state).
|
