<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic scroll compressor having high reliability while preventing destruction of ozone layer and global warming by using ammonia refrigerant. <P>SOLUTION: The hermetic scroll compressor 1 is constituted so that a compression mechanism part 2 having a fixed scroll 100 and a turning scroll 200, an electric motor part 3 having a stator 601 and a rotor 602, a driving shaft 300 which is connected to the rotor 602, drives the compression mechanism part 2, and supported with a plain bearing 210, and lubricant supplied to the plain bearing 210, are housed in a closed vessel 700. The hermetic scroll compressor 1 uses the ammonia refrigerant as a working refrigerant, and uses polyalkylene glycol oil having compatibility with ammonia refrigerant as lubricant.
