<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance detector with a feature to detect breakage of an emission window part or an incidence window part. <P>SOLUTION: By irradiating light for breakage detection from the edge of an emission window part 1d or an incidence window part 1e and receiving the emitted light at the opposite edge, the device judges whether the emission window part 1d or the incidence window part 1e is damaged.
