The invention relates to a device 1 for the intermediate storage of coins in public telephones. Arranged in the device are a storage route 8 for coins, a cash-collection route 9 and a return route 10. The storage route 8 and the cash-collection route 9 have been displaced relative to one another at right angles to the motional direction of the coins. The cash-collection route 9 lies in substantial part lower than the storage route 8. The device 1 has members 6, 6a for detaining the coins on the storage route 8 and members 5, 5a for moving the coins at right angles to their motional direction from the storage route 8 to the cash-collection route 9. <IMAGE>
