Gearbox noise reduction by electrical drive control

A system for damping audible noise from a drive train (10). One embodiment is a system with an audible noise signal (30) from a drive train wherein a damping circuit (40) produces a damping torque that is a phase shifted and amplified version of the noise signal that is applied (55) to the air-gap torque of a generator (20) or motor coupled to the drive train (10) and effectively reduces the audible noise.
