PURPOSE:To enable the sputter of a dielectric layer to be prevented without causing the concentration of electric discharge on an electrode edge by causing discharge to take place between the side of a maintenance electrode and a select electrode. CONSTITUTION:A write electrode 13 covered with a dielectric layer 16 is laid on a rear glass substrate 12. Select electrodes 15 and maintenance electrodes 14 erected up to the predetermined thickness in a direction orthogonal with the surface of the substrate 12 are provided on the aforesaid dielectric layer 16. Furthermore, a division 19 coated with phosphor 18 is provided between the two select electrodes 15. Electric discharge is caused to take place between the sides of the maintenance electrodes 14 and the select electrode 15, thereby making the phosphor 18 luminous for display. |
