摘要 949,470. Stereophonic radio systems. PHILCO CORPORATION. March 31, 1960 [April 9, 1959], No. 11379/60. Heading H4L. A stereophonic radio receiver for a wave which is amplitude modulated by the sum A+B of the two information signals and phase modulated by the difference A - B of the two information signals comprises means for providing first and second detected signals varying in amplitude in the same sense in response to the amplitude modulation and varying in amplitude in opposite senses in response to the phase modulation and means for combining said detected signals to provide two outputs representing the respective information signals. As shown, the incoming signal after frequency-changing is supplied to I.F. stages 72, 74 having output stages 76, 80, tuned respectively below and above the centre frequency of the incoming signal so that the arrangement will act as a frequency discriminator. Diodes 84, 88 act as amplitude detectors for the A+B amplitude modulation signal and produce corresponding signals across the loads 86, 90 which have the same polarity with respect to earth. Considering the phase modulation as a frequency modulation of the carrier by a signal equivalent to the time derivative of the A - B signal, this demodulated signal will appear across the loads 86, 90 in opposite phase. The signals across the loads 86, 90 are supplied to the respective control grids of a differential amplifier 94, 96. Since the A+B signals are in phase they are added in the common cathode resistors 98, 100, but the A - B signals cause the anode-cathode currents of the valves 94, 96 to change in opposite directions so that their effect is balanced out in the cathode resistors and the A - B audio signals appearing across load resistors 102, 104 will be in opposite phase. The signals across capacitors 122 and 126 are proportional to the integral of the frequency component and thus are proportional to the A - B phase modulation component, but are in opposite phase. The potentiometers 102, 104 are adjusted so that the B component is equal to that appearing across resistor 100 and thus the signal appearing at output terminal 20 will be the A signal and that at output 22 will be the B signal. In modifications, cross-talk due to any difference between the average frequency of the incoming carrier and the cross-over frequency of the discriminator is minimized by deriving a control voltage having an amplitude which is dependent on this difference to control the frequency of the local oscillator or alternatively to change the cross-over frequency of the discriminator. Specification 947,306 is referred to.
