The impregnated-type cathode comprises (a) a cathode substrate formed with the first metal-coated layer on the surface of the impregnated electron emission material, (b) a reservoir for supporting the substrate, and (c) a heater for heating the substrate. The metal of the layer is pref. aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and the heater material is pref. W or Re-W alloy.
