A method of producing a sheet of wood veneer comprises cutting a plurality of veneer laminations, forming a V-shaped block from the laminations, the grain 5 of the laminations being in a direction across the V of the block, and slicing sheets of wood veneer from the block with a knife. The veneer laminations with adhesive therebetween are pressed into the shape of a V in a press which may be as described in Specification 1,017,823, having upper and lower V-shaped dies. The grain 5 and flower 4 of the laminations are as shown in Fig. 2. The block may then be inverted and the sheets cut from the block by a knife 6 which moves at an angleαto the apex of the block. The angle may vary between 0 and 90 degrees to cut along planes A, B, C, D, A,B,Y,Z or M,N,O,P to produce sheets having flowers at various angles to the grain. The block may be shaped into a rectangle before cutting and may be placed eccentrically or symmetrically between the centre of a rotary cutting machine to cut separate sheets or a continuous sheet from the block which is then cut into separate sheets. The block may be shaped along the length of the V to produce variations in the figure of the sheets produced, and the laminations from which the block is made may have the same colour or different colours. |
