Halogen-containing vinyl resins, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, are plasticized with compounds of formula wherein either (a) R1 and one of R2, R3 ar allyl, the other being alkyl or cyloalkyl, or (b) R1 and one of R2, R3 are alkyl or cycloalkyl, the other being allyl.ALSO:The invention comprises trimellitates of formula wherein either (a) R1 and one of R2, R3 ar allyl, the other being alkyl or cycloalkyl, or (b) R1 and one of R2, R3 are alkyl or cycloalkyl, the other being allyl. These esters are respectively made by reacting trimellitic anhydride, in presence of an aliphatic tertiary amine, with either (a) alkanol or cycloalkanol, and allyl chloride, bromide or iodide, or (b) allyl alcohol, and an alkyl or cycloalkyl halide.
