In a stator winding machine, apparatus for positioning and fastening winding formers on stator laminate packs 20 comprises a carrierplate 16 for the laminate pack which positions it coaxially of a needle-carrier 5, a plurality of wire-guiding shrouds, transversely divided into halves, on either side of the carrier-plate and movable towards each other, and a plurality of locking slides 40 on either side of the carrierplate which releasably secure the shroud halves to the laminate pack. Holders 56 are positioned on pressure plates 49, 50 to hold the main and auxiliary wire-guiding shrouds (70), (71) in the required locations, Fig. 2 (not shown). The halves 72, 73 of the shrouds are placed on the holders with a guide-rod 62 of the latter engaging in a guide bore 76 in each shroud half, and a nose 78 engages in an aperture 66 of a snapper 63 thereby locking it to the holder 56. The plates 49, 50 are moved towards each other and guide bars 90 of the shroud halves 72 enter bores in the shroud halves 73 until slots 92 in the bars 90 are in alignment with apertures 85, 86 in the shroud halves 73. Ribs 88 enter the axial slots in the laminate pack 20. The locking slides 40 are disposed radially around the pack 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the slides in alignment with the wire guiding shroud are actuated so that their tips 42 pass through the apertures 86 until they strike the lower ends of the snappers 63 thereby releasing the noses 78 from the apertures 66, Fig. 12 (not shown). The plates 49, 50 are next moved outwardly and spring-loaded bars 80, which were constrained inwardly by pressure-bar 68, move outwardly so that projections 87 engage in recesses 43 in the slides 40. The auxiliary wire-guiding shrouds are also withdrawn with the plates 49, 50. The locking slides adjacent the slots being wound are also extended to prevent deformation of the laminations during winding. After the inner coil has been wound the auxiliary shrouds are positioned in the same way as the main shrouds and the outer coil is wound. When all winding operations are completed, the plates 49, 50 are moved towards each other so that the holders 56 once more engage the shroud halves 72, 73. The slides 40 are moved radially inwardly by a small amount to release the projections 87 and the bars 80 are moved inwardly by the holder 56. The slides are then withdrawn and the snappers 63 reengage the noses 78 so that the shroud halves can be withdrawn with their holders to re-set the machine for a further winding operation. The carrier plate 16 is movable between two settings and is provided with two laminate pack-receiving bores (18), (19), Fig. 3 (not shown). As one stator is being wound an operator removes a wound stator from one bore and replaces it with a pack to be wound. |
