In a cigar wrapper cutting device of the type in which an arm carrying cutting wheels is reciprocated relative to a cutting die, and. having a coupling means actuating the operation of the arm that is arranged to be engaged and disengaged by means of a manually operated means, the coupling means is additionally controlled by a cam synchronized with the operation of the arm, by means of which cam the disengagement of the coupling means by the manually actuated means is prevented in all positions of the arm except in one specific position in which the cutting wheels are not in contact with the cutting die. In one embodiment, electric power is supplied to the drive motor of the device by a contactor the control circuit of which includes two switches in parallel, both of which switches must be open simultaneously to break the circuit. One of the two switches is manually operated, and the other is opened intermittently by the cam once at the end of every cutting operation when the cutting wheels reach their turning position at the end of their return movement from the cutting die. In a second embodiment, a mechanical clutch in the drive mechanism to the device is disengaged by the operation of a foot pedal, this operation being mechanically barred by the cam mechanism in all positions but the aforementioned turning position.</p> |
