Slip in a bevel pinion differential gear is limited by cone clutches between the gear casing 11, 13 and output shafts S, each clutch comprising an inner member 45 splined to a shaft and an outer member 53 detachably secured to the casing. The member 53 may be of steel and formed by stamping, spinning &c. and is provided with radial tabs 59 engaging recesses 35 in the casing 11, 13. Lubricant for the clutch passes through holes 63 in the member 53 and enters a helical groove 47 on the outer surface of the member 45. The clutches are axially loaded by springs 71 mounted between rings 65, 67 engaging the inner clutch members 45.</p> |
