[Also in Division B3] A cooling system for rolled bars includes a rack across which each bar is moved transversely and intermittently, the rack including sections positioned in different planes, with one section disposed in a water tank. Bars 1 from a roller conveyer 2 or chain conveyer 3 are moved by shifters 11 on to an hydraulically operated walking beam rack section 5. The rolling of the hot bars down the notched surfaces of the racks, during movement of the bars across the section, tends to straighten the bars. Hooked levers 8 are operated by cylinders 13, and levers 14 and 15, to shift the bars from rack section 5 to section 6, cams 18 preventing bars from falling from the section 5 when the levers 8 are in a lowered position. After passing across section 6, which comprises pivoted racks 6b and fixed racks 6a, similar levers 20 lift the bars on to a delivery shoot 10. The drives for the movable racks 5b, 6b may be combined, and oscillating as opposed to pivoting racks can be employed. The levers 8 can be replaced by an inclined rack conveyer, and the levers 20 can be dispensed with by causing the racks 6b to rise adjacent the shoot 10. |
