摘要 1,151,938. Fuel cell electrodes. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 13 Sept., 1966 [14 Sept., 1965], No. 40870/66. Heading H1B. [Also in Division C7] A porous electrode, preferably for use in fuel cells, is made by bringing the pores of a porous electrically conducting body, such as a single- or double-layered porous nickel electrode, into contact with a platinum group metal compound which is decomposable in gaseous state, such as Pd, Pt, Rh, Ir, Ru acetyl acetonate or carbonyl chloride, and heating the porous body at least to the decomposition temperature of the compound e.g. to 275-400‹ C. Examples are given of impregnating a porous nickel electrode under vacuum with a saturated solution of Pd acetyl acetonate in benzene or Pt carbonyl chloride in CCl 4 , drying and heat treating at 275‹ C and 350‹ C. respectively in air. In one example, 10 atom per cent of the Pd acetyl acetonate may be replaced by Pt acetyl acetonate, the heat treatment being at 400‹ C. The electrode may consist of a 1À4 mm. thick coarse porous layer (pore size between 0À5 and 100 microns) containing besides Ni, Co, Fe, W, Mo, Ti, Ta and C, and a 0À3 mm. thick fine porous layer (pore size between 0À2 and 20 microns) containing, besides the materials of the coarse layer, Al 2 O 3 , MgO, ZrO 2 and ThO 2 . The platinum group metal deposited may be 0À001-1% of the electrode.
