In the pyrolysis of hydrocarbons to form gaseous and liquid products in a furnace having a radiant zone and a convection zone, the hydrocarbon is introduced with water into the convection zone to preheat the combined feed and thence into the radiant zone maintained at cracking temperature followed by quenching and recovery of the products. Steam may also be introduced into the preheat zone. Preferably, the water feed is obtained by condensation of the products. Using a temperature of 982-1093 DEG C., the products contain ethylene and propylene. |
