In a sound-resistant partition comprising a number of interengaging tongued and grooved panels 10 each panel extends from floor to ceiling and comprises a lead sheet 18, Fig. 2, a porous layer 19 (e.g. of glass fibre or cellular plastics) and outer rigid sheets 22, 23 (e.g. of plywood) which may be covered with P.V.C. or like fabric, the sheets being secured to a framework formed by two posts 13, 14 and two rails 15, 16. Reinforcing angles 24 may be provided. Adjacent panels interengaging by tongues 25, grooves 26 and gaskets 28 are clamped together by flanged cam latches 29, Fig. 5. The end panel has a tongue 38 engaging foam rubber 43 in a recess 39 in a wall member 40, the foam rubber being compressible to allow fitting of the panels. The upper panel rails 15 have tongues 27 engaging a rubber-lined groove of a ceiling member 32, while the lower rails 16 carry a rubber strip 36 engaging the floor. One of the panels, Fig. 4 (not shown), has a central post providing a vertical tongue projecting from the panel face for engagement by the groove of a panel perpendicular thereto. Each panel incorporates a space 10 between the lead sheet 18 and porous layer 19, or between the layer 19 and sheet 23. |
