The efficiency of a high-frequency multicavity magnetron is increased by arranging that the distance between the opposed faces of the magnetron polepieces diminishes from the axis to the periphery of the polepieces, whereby the magnetic field intensity at the cathode is less than that at the anode. As described, the magnetic field variation is provided by a pair of polepieces of which one has a central recess, and the other a similar recess formed by a sunken iron insert surrounded by a tuning member. Both poles are additionally provided with an axial bore. |
