1,158,437. Current collectors. SCHUNK & EBE G.m.b.H. 10 Oct., 1966 [5 Nov., 1965], No. 45259/66. Heading B7L. A sliding contact strip for a current collector on an electrical traction vehicle comprises a metal casing 2, Fig. 2, having two abradable side walls, which casing is closed at the bottom and adapted as a carrier for an artificial carbon element 1 embedded therein, the upper surface of the carbon element and the side walls forming the contact surface of the strip, the casing being at its bottom bent outwardly to provide, in use, vertical air drag surfaces and horizontal lift surfaces adapted to exert aerodynamic forces which press the strip on to overhead contact wires and increase with increasing travel speed of the vehicle. The cross-section of the abradable strip decreases from the strip centre to the ends. The casing may be comprised of two or three different metals instead of from the single metal e.g. copper, shown. In one form, Fig. 4, the bottom 6 of the casing is made from sheet steel whilst the side walls 5 are of copper. |
