1,043,798. Brakes. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. April 12, 1965 [April 28, 1964], No. 15583/65. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B7] In a tractor steered by selective declutching and braking of opposite driving wheels or endless-tracks, control pedals 18L, R are connected by linkages 21, 22, 23, 24 to servo boosters 12 which disengage the steering clutches during initial depression of the pedals, and lugs 33 on the pedals 18L, R engage levers 28L, R connected by links 30 to brake mechanisms 26L, R which include lost-motion sufficient to ensure clutch disengagement before brake application. A third pedal 35 carries an equalizing bar 38 engaging both levers 28L, R to enable simultaneous application of both brakes without disengaging the clutches. Each servo booster 12 comprises a plunger 15 which is depressed upon actuation of the associated pedal to close port 50 communicating with vents 51 and cause oil supplied through an inlet 48 to build up pressure behind a piston 46 engaging a roller 53 on a lever 52 connected to the clutch mechanism. Ports 56 extend beyond the bore 47 to relieve pressure on the piston when the clutch is disengaged.
|
