1,114,484. Disc brake. T. CAMPAGNOLO. 7 Sept., 1965 [7 Sept., 1964; 29 July. 1965], No. 38228/65. Heading F2E. In a disc brake having a floating caliper 3 and directly and indirectly actuated friction pads 12, 11, the directly actuated pad is arranged to move towards the disc with a motion comprising both translation along and rotation about the axis of the pad to provide a selftightening effect. The pads 11, 12 are provided with backing plates 13, 20 having tongues 13<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP> engaging in support members 14, 21. Member 14 has slots 15, 16 of different depths, one of which is manually selected, according to the wear of the pad, to align with and abut one arm 17 of the caliper. A biasing spring 19 is provided. The member 21 co-operates with ball- and-ramp mechanism 24-28 and is rotatable by a lever 22 connected to a brake lever by linkage adjustable for pad wear. A return spring 29 acts on the lever. The sliding surfaces of the mounting bracket 5 and the caliper 3 are provided with grease retained by a seal 10. A tapped hole 35 in the caliper allows a screw to be inserted to centralize the caliper when the brake is being fitted. The screw is then removed to allow the caliper to float, shortened and used as a grease retaining screw. Brackets for fitting the brake to the front forks of a motor cycle are described. |
