Timber is rendered solvent-resistant and shrink-proof by treatment with a monomer mixture containing 50-80% acrylonitrile and respectively 50-20% methyl methacrylate subsequent to the de-sapping of the timber. The monomer mixture may also contain 1-3% of strongly polarised monomers e.g. acrylic acid, methacrylic acid and preferably contains 0.5-5% of a wetting agent e.g. glycol dimethyl acrylate, divinyl benzene. |
