[Also in Division C3] An abrasive article comprises either abrasive particles dispersed in a matrix formed from a cured moulding powder composition comprising a resin, a reinforcing non-metal filler and a metal powder, said non-metal filler comprising 8-46% by volume and said metal powder comprising 8-20% by volume of the moulding composition or an abrasive body containing abrasive particles and mounted on a supporting body formed from such a cured moulding composition. The abrasive article may be a grinding wheel. The abrasive particles specified are of diamond. The non-metal filler may be asbestos, glass fibres, carbon fibres, silicon carbide fibres or alumina fibres. The metal powder may be copper, aluminium, silver, metallic alloys or coated metal powders such as silver coated iron or copper powders. The particle size of the metal powder should preferably be less than 300 mesh B.S.S. The resin may be a phenolaldehyde resin. The example refers to a grinding wheel consisting of a core consisting of 33À7% by volume asbestos, 15À7% by volume of- 300 mesh B.S.S. electrolytic copper powder, and phenol-aldehyde resin to which is mounted a diamond abrasive layer comprising 9À8% by volume diamond and 90À2% by volume of phenol-formaldehyde resin. |
