[Also in Division G2] A two-cell balanced double-beam spectrometer comprises a source 10, slit 11, plane mirror 12 and focusing mirror 13, directing light, as shown, on to a multiple reflection cell 30 from which it passes to a reflecting surface of a semicircular disc 14 and then to a focusing mirror 16, plane mirror 17 and slit of a monochromator 18 having associated therewith the usual electronics 19. The disc 14, which has both its surfaces reflecting, is rotatably mounted and in its dotted line position directs light to cell 31 so that the rotatable disc 14 acts as a beam splitter and recombiner. The cell 31 may be immersed in a material to be analysed by the method of internal reflection spectroscopy. |
